Monitoring Now that you are back on the roads, the state requires that you bring your vehicle back to our location every 60 days after your installation, so we can check the device and send a report to the state. (Your device will give a service reminder prior to your appointment date)
Removal After you have completed your term simply bring your vehicle in to have the device removed for free! You may continue to drive with your current drivers license because the restriction will no longer apply, or you may have a new license issued to you by the MVC.
And it's as simple as that! At Interlock Device of NJ, our commitment will never waver in providing services which make the difficult process of dealing with a DUI far easier to handle. Simply follow the above instructions and you will be back in the drivers seat in no time.
An Interlock is a breath alcohol analysis device that is installed in a motor vehicle. The Interlock prevents an alcohol-impaired person from starting the motor vehicle. Retests are randomly required during operation of the vehicle. The Interlock system records dates, times, test results, engine runs and engine offs. This data is provided to designated authorities and used to determine compliance with the Interlock program.
No. An Interlock does not shut off a vehicle's engine, or stop it abruptly in its tracks. If a Retest is failed, or if the Retest is not presented when required, a violation will be recorded. The vehicle's horn will sound and the lights may flash until either the breath test is passed or the vehicle is turned off by the driver.
The Interlock allows a free restart of two minutes. The vehicle can be restarted within this time without another breath test.
The Draeger Interlock utilizes electrochemical fuel cell technology which is alcohol specific. The Draeger Interlock Device will not show a positive alcohol result for non-alcohol airborne pollutants.
Most likely the device will register alcohol if the mouthwash has alcohol in it. We advise you not to eat, drink or smoke for at least 5 minutes before the test, and do not use mouthwash for at least 15 minutes before the test.
Yes, however there is no way of verifying that you were not the person driving the vehicle. This means that you become responsible for everything that the unit records. If another person was driving the car you are still responsible for any consequences that arise if that person was drinking.
The monitoring time interval can vary from state to state, but in New Jersey the interlock is monitored at the service center every eight (8) weeks. This monitoring and calibration check will take approximately fifteen (15) minutes.
Yes. A non-compliant user might request that someone (a stranger, family member, older child) provide a passing breath sample. The Interlock Device does not positively identify the driver. The Retest feature, however, requires subsequent random breath samples during the journey, and shortly after the engine starts. In addition, the breath sample must fulfill a volume specification and be presented in a unique manner. Incorrect breath presentation is noted in the events log.
You should inform Interlock Device of New Jersey prior to having the vehicle worked on and then present the receipt at the next monthly appointment. Note that anytime the battery is disconnected due to service work, the customer must bring a repair receipt to the next monthly appointment.
