We make it easy to get back on the road fast!

1Call to set up an appointment We'll get all the information from you that we need and answer any questions you might have. (Appointments can be made as quickly as next day)
2Bring your vehicle to one of our locations throughout the state Try our device on our demonstration unit. Once you are completely comfortable, we will install the device in your vehicle. (note: installation takes approximately an hour-and-a-half)
3Obtain your license Once installed, we will give you all the paperwork necessary to get your license restored. Have someone drive you to a regional MVC (do not drive yourself) with your paperwork. You will get an Interlock restricted drivers license and can enjoy driving with your Interlock.

Monitoring Now that you are back on the roads, the state requires that you bring your vehicle back to our location every 60 days after your installation, so we can check the device and send a report to the state. (Your device will give a service reminder prior to your appointment date)

Removal After you have completed your term simply bring your vehicle in to have the device removed for free! You may continue to drive with your current drivers license because the restriction will no longer apply, or you may have a new license issued to you by the MVC.

And it's as simple as that! At Interlock Device of NJ, our commitment will never waver in providing services which make the difficult process of dealing with a DUI far easier to handle. Simply follow the above instructions and you will be back in the drivers seat in no time.

What is an Ignition Interlock Device?

An Interlock is a breath alcohol analysis device that is installed in a motor vehicle. The Interlock prevents an alcohol-impaired person from starting the motor vehicle. Retests are randomly required during operation of the vehicle. The Interlock system records dates, times, test results, engine runs and engine offs. This data is provided to designated authorities and used to determine compliance with the Interlock program.

Will the unit shut off the engine?

No. An Interlock does not shut off a vehicle's engine, or stop it abruptly in its tracks. If a Retest is failed, or if the Retest is not presented when required, a violation will be recorded. The vehicle's horn will sound and the lights may flash until either the breath test is passed or the vehicle is turned off by the driver.

What if the vehicle stalls in traffic?

The Interlock allows a free restart of two minutes. The vehicle can be restarted within this time without another breath test.

Will the Interlock record "false positive" tests?

The Draeger Interlock utilizes electrochemical fuel cell technology which is alcohol specific. The Draeger Interlock Device will not show a positive alcohol result for non-alcohol airborne pollutants.

What happens if you use mouthwash before blowing into the device?

Most likely the device will register alcohol if the mouthwash has alcohol in it. We advise you not to eat, drink or smoke for at least 5 minutes before the test, and do not use mouthwash for at least 15 minutes before the test.

Will other people be able to drive the vehicle?

Yes, however there is no way of verifying that you were not the person driving the vehicle. This means that you become responsible for everything that the unit records. If another person was driving the car you are still responsible for any consequences that arise if that person was drinking.

How often will the interlock need to be monitored?

The monitoring time interval can vary from state to state, but in New Jersey the interlock is monitored at the service center every eight (8) weeks. This monitoring and calibration check will take approximately fifteen (15) minutes.

Can't someone besides the driver provide the test?

Yes. A non-compliant user might request that someone (a stranger, family member, older child) provide a passing breath sample. The Interlock Device does not positively identify the driver. The Retest feature, however, requires subsequent random breath samples during the journey, and shortly after the engine starts. In addition, the breath sample must fulfill a volume specification and be presented in a unique manner. Incorrect breath presentation is noted in the events log.

What happens if you have repair work done on a car with the device?

You should inform Interlock Device of New Jersey prior to having the vehicle worked on and then present the receipt at the next monthly appointment. Note that anytime the battery is disconnected due to service work, the customer must bring a repair receipt to the next monthly appointment.

After the interlock is installed, is technical support available?

Yes. We train you to use the interlock. We will give you an additional toll-free number to call for 24-hour emergency response and assistance. During office hours from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday, we are available at 1-800-970-1002 if any difficulty arises.

What if I miss my monitoring appointment?

State law requires your device to be serviced regularly. You will be required to bring the vehicle in for monitoring every eight (8) weeks. If you miss your appointment and are locked out, or your unit locks out due to violations, you will be required to tow the vehicle into the service center of your choice at your expense. There is a fee of $50.00 for missing your appointment.

How do I enroll?

Simply call our toll-free number at 1-800-970-1002 and Customer Service will answer any additional questions you may have and schedule your appointment at the service center.
